| New Toters
Hopefully, everyone has received their new toters. The change over hasn’t been easy, but we are receiving very positive feedback and recycling totals certainly show that the residents of La Porte County are doing the right thing! Total tonnages for recycling have increased dramatically this year.
We apologize if your recycling is missed on your pickup day. Sometimes there is a simple remedy, so let us work with you and we will get the problem taken care of. Please call the next day after you are missed so that it can be resolved with Able. Before calling.
- Be sure to have your recycling toter curbside at 6:00 a.m.
- Be sure you’re toter has not been emptied. With the lid closed by the new trucks, it is hard to know for sure if it is empty.
- If you have extra containers, have them clearly marked RECYCLING.
- Additional containers are not to exceed 20 gallon capacity.
- Also, if you use extra containers, you must also have your blue toter out as a marker for the Able driver.
LEAVE TOTER WHEN YOU MOVE
There should be a toter left at your new location. However, for new construction, just call the District office and we will call Able to deliver one. Landlords and mobile home park owners are responsible to keep toter at rental property.
Recent Rash of Thefts
We have been receiving phone calls from residents who have had their recycling toters STOLEN.
Consider this a public notice to inform all that theft of these numbered containers is grounds for prosecution.
All City/County police departments have been notified of this rash of thefts; the Solid Waste District will prosecute anyone caught stealing toters. Prosecution can include, but is not limited to, a cash fine, arrest, and a possibility of jail time.
REMEMBER, the toters have numbers that correlate to house addresses and are easily verified. Do yourself and everyone else a favor -- don't take something that belongs to someone else.
Cans, and Cardboard, and Bottles – OH MY!
The next time you hear stories about what happens to your
recycling after it’s collected, please consider how most rumors
begin – usually from misinformation. We offer the following,
with the great photos taken by John Daley Jr., in the hopes
of bringing more clarity to our recycling story. What we (the
District and the residents) do in LaPorte County really does
matter.
